Despotismo
El despotismo es una forma de gobierno en la que una sola entidad gobierna con poder absoluto. Esa entidad puede ser un individuo, como en una autocracia, o puede ser un grupo, como en una oligarquía. La palabra despotismo significa "gobernar a la manera de un déspota" y no necesariamente requiere un singular "déspota", un individuo. Despot proviene de los despotes griegos, que significa aproximadamente "maestro" o "uno con poder", y se ha utilizado para traducir una amplia variedad de títulos y posiciones. Se usó para describir el poder ilimitado y la autoridad de los faraones de Egipto, empleado en la corte bizantina como un título de la nobleza, usado por los gobernantes de los estados vassales bizantinos, y adoptado como un título de los emperadores bizantinos.
