El calentamiento dieléctrico, también conocido como calentamiento electrónico, calentamiento de RF, calentamiento de alta frecuencia es el proceso en el cual un campo eléctrico alterno de alta frecuencia, o radiación electromagnética de ondas de radio o microondas calienta un material dieléctrico. A frecuencias más altas, este calentamiento es causado por la rotación del dipolo molecular dentro del dieléctrico. A frecuencias más bajas en los fluidos conductores, otros mecanismos como el arrastre iónico son más importantes en la generación de energía térmica. El calentamiento dieléctrico de RF a frecuencias intermedias, debido a su mayor penetración sobre el calentamiento por microondas, es más prometedor que los sistemas de microondas como un método de calentamiento muy rápido y preparación uniforme de ciertos alimentos, además de matar parásitos y plagas en ciertos cultivos cosechados.
