Disociación (química)

La disociación en química y bioquímica es un proceso general en el cual los compuestos iónicos se separan o se dividen en partículas, iones o radicales más pequeños, usualmente de manera reversible. Por ejemplo, cuando un ácido de Brønsted-Lowry se pone en agua, un enlace covalente entre un átomo electronegativo y un átomo de hidrógeno se rompe por fisión heterolítica, lo que da un protón y un ion negativo. La disociación es lo opuesto de la asociación y la recombinación. El proceso se confunde frecuentemente con la ionización.
