Engelbert Dollfuss
Engelbert Dollfuss era un estadista cristiano cristiano austriaco y estadista del Frente Patriótico. Sirviendo previamente como Ministro de Bosques y Agricultura, ascendió al Canciller Federal en 1932 en medio de una crisis para el gobierno conservador. A principios de 1933, cerró el parlamento, prohibió el partido nazi austriaco y asumió poderes dictatoriales. Suprimiendo el movimiento socialista en febrero de 1934, cimentó la regla del "austrofascismo" a través de la autoritaria Constitución del primer de mayo. Dollfuss fue asesinado como parte de un fallido intento de golpe por parte de agentes nazis en 1934. Su sucesor Kurt Schuschnigg mantuvo su régimen hasta la anexión de Adolf Hitler de Austria en 1938.
