Electrojet
Un electrojet es una corriente eléctrica que viaja alrededor de la región E de la ionosfera de la Tierra. Hay dos electrojets: por encima del ecuador magnético, y cerca de los Círculos Polares Norte y Sur. Electrojets son corrientes Hall llevadas principalmente por electrones en altitudes de 100 a 150 km. En esta región, la frecuencia de los giroscopios electrónicos es mucho mayor que la frecuencia de colisión entre electrones y neutros. En contraste, los iones principales de la región E tienen girofrecuencias mucho más bajas que la frecuencia de colisión ión-neutro. Kristian Birkeland fue el primero en sugerir que las corrientes eléctricas polares están conectadas a un sistema de filamentos que fluyen a lo largo de líneas de campo geomagnético dentro y fuera de la región polar.
