Epidemiología
La epidemiología es la ciencia que estudia los patrones, causas y efectos de las condiciones de salud y enfermedad en poblaciones definidas. Las principales áreas de estudio epidemiológico incluyen etiología de la enfermedad, investigación de brotes, vigilancia y rastreo de enfermedades, biomonitoreo y comparaciones de efectos de tratamiento como en ensayos clínicos. Los epidemiólogos se basan en otras disciplinas científicas como la biología para comprender mejor los procesos de la enfermedad, las estadísticas para hacer un uso eficiente de los datos y sacar conclusiones apropiadas, las ciencias sociales para comprender mejor las causas proximales y distales y la ingeniería para la evaluación de la exposición.
