Ferroelectricidad
La ferroelectricidad es una propiedad de ciertos materiales que tienen una polarización eléctrica espontánea que puede ser revertida por la aplicación de un campo eléctrico externo. El término se utiliza en analogía con el ferromagnetismo, en el cual un material exhibe un momento magnético permanente. El ferromagnetismo ya era conocido cuando la ferroelectricidad fue descubierta en 1920 en la sal de Rochelle por Valasek. Así, el prefijo ferro, que significa hierro, se usó para describir la propiedad a pesar de que la mayoría de los materiales ferroeléctricos no contienen hierro.
