Un rectificador es un dispositivo eléctrico que convierte la corriente alterna, que invierte periódicamente la dirección, a la corriente directa, que fluye en una sola dirección. El proceso se conoce como rectificación. Físicamente, los rectificadores toman varias formas, incluyendo diodos de tubo de vacío, válvulas de arco de mercurio, rectificadores de óxido de cobre y selenio, diodos semiconductores, rectificadores controlados por silicio y otros conmutadores semiconductores basados en silicio. Históricamente, incluso se han utilizado conmutadores y motores electromecánicos sincrónicos.
