Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev (. Ruso: Михаил Сергеевич Горбачёв, tr Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachyov, IPA: (escuchar); nacido el 2 de marzo de 1931) es un ex hombre de Estado soviético. Fue el séptimo y último líder de la Unión Soviética, después de haber servido como Secretario General del Partido Comunista de la Unión Soviética a partir de 1985 hasta 1991, y como jefe de Estado del país desde 1988 hasta su disolución en 1991 (titulado como Presidente de la Presidium del Soviet Supremo de 1988 a 1989, como Presidente del Soviet Supremo de 1989 a 1990 y como Presidente de la Unión Soviética de 1990 a 1991). Fue el único secretario general de la historia de la Unión Soviética que nació después de la Revolución de Octubre. Gorbachov nació en el Krai de Stavropol en una familia ucraniana-rusa campesina, y en su adolescencia operaba cosechadoras en granjas colectivas. Se graduó de la Universidad Estatal de Moscú en 1955 con un título en derecho. Mientras estaba en la universidad, se unió al Partido Comunista, y pronto se puso muy activo dentro de él.
