Diodo de Gunn
Un diodo Gunn, también conocido como un dispositivo de electrones transferidos, es una forma de diodo, un componente electrónico semiconductor, utilizado en electrónica de alta frecuencia. Su uso más grande es en los osciladores electrónicos para generar microondas, en aplicaciones tales como pistolas de velocidad de radar y transmisores de relé de microondas. Su construcción interna es diferente de otros diodos en que consiste sólo en material semiconductor dopado con N, mientras que la mayoría de los diodos constan de regiones P y N-dopadas. En el diodo de Gunn, existen tres regiones: dos de ellas están fuertemente dopadas con N en cada terminal, con una delgada capa de material ligeramente dopado entre ellas. Cuando se aplica una tensión al dispositivo, el gradiente eléctrico será mayor a través de la capa media delgada. La conducción tendrá lugar como en cualquier material conductor, siendo la corriente proporcional a la tensión aplicada. Eventualmente, a valores de campo más altos, las propiedades conductoras de la capa intermedia se alteran, aumentando su resistividad, impidiendo la conducción adicional y la corriente comienza a caer. Esto significa que un diodo de Gunn tiene una región de resistencia diferencial negativa.
