En música, una nota media o mínima es una nota jugada por la mitad de la duración de una nota entera y dos veces la duración de una nota de cuarto. En las firmas de tiempo con una longitud de barra de 4 tiempos, como 4/4 o 3/4 de tiempo, la media nota es de dos tiempos. Las notas de la mitad están anotadas con una cabeza hueca de la nota oval y un tallo de la nota recta sin las banderas. El medio resto denota un silencio por la misma duración. Los medios descansos se dibujan como rectángulos rellenos que se sientan encima de la línea media del personal musical. Como con todas las notas con tallos, las medias notas se dibujan con tallos a la derecha de la cabeza de la nota, hacia arriba, cuando están por debajo de la línea media del pentagrama. Cuando están sobre o por encima de la línea media, se dibujan con los tallos a la izquierda de la cabeza de la nota, hacia abajo. Sus sílabas de ritmo son ta-ah. La nota deriva de los mínimos en la notación mensual, que es latín para 'menor o menor', porque en una etapa era el más corto de todos los valores de nota utilizados. La palabra minim proviene de este nombre. El término americano media nota es una traducción de préstamo del siglo XIX de la nota halbe alemana.

In music, a half note or minim is a note played for half the duration of a whole note and twice the duration of a quarter note. In time signatures with a bar length of 4 beats, such as 4/4 or 3/4 time, the half note is two beats long. Half notes are notated with a hollow oval note head and a straight note stem with no flags. The half rest denotes a silence for the same duration. Half rests are drawn as filled-in rectangles sitting on top of the middle line of the musical staff. As with all notes with stems, half notes are drawn with stems to the right of the note head, facing up, when they are below the middle line of the staff. When they are on or above the middle line, they are drawn with stems on the left of the note head, facing down. Its rhythm syllables are ta-ah. The note derives from the minima in mensural notation, which is Latin for 'least or smallest,' because at one stage it was the shortest of all note values used. The word minim comes from this name. The American term half note is a 19th-century loan translation of German halbe Note.
