Leontodon es un género de diente de león-como las plantas en la familia Asteraceae, comúnmente conocido como hawkbits. Su nombre inglés deriva de la creencia medieval que los halcones comieron la planta para mejorar su vista. Aunque originalmente eran originarias de Eurasia y África del Norte, algunas especies se han establecido desde entonces en otros países, incluyendo Estados Unidos y Nueva Zelanda. Investigaciones recientes han demostrado que el género Leontodon en la delimitación tradicional es polifilético. Por lo tanto, el ex subtipo de Leontodon Oporinia se elevó a nivel genérico. De acuerdo con las reglas de nomenclatura el nombre Scorzoneroides tiene prioridad a nivel genérico y por lo tanto, los miembros de Leontodon subgénero Oporinia fueron transferidos al género re-erguido Scorzoneroides.
