Hungría i / hʌŋɡəri / (húngaro: Magyarország (escuchar)) es un país sin salida al mar en Europa Central. Está situada en la cuenca de los Cárpatos y limita con Eslovaquia al norte, Ucrania y Rumania al este, Serbia y Croacia al sur, Eslovenia al suroeste y Austria al oeste. La capital y la ciudad más grande del país es Budapest. Hungría es miembro de la Unión Europea, la OTAN, la OCDE, el Grupo Visegrád y el Espacio Schengen. El idioma oficial es el húngaro, que es la lengua no indoeuropea más hablada en Europa. Siguiendo siglos de sucesivas colonias de celtas, romanos, hunos, eslavos, gepids y avares, la fundación de Hungría fue establecida a finales del siglo IX por el gran príncipe húngaro Árpád en Honfoglalás ("conquista de la patria"). Su bisnieto Esteban I ascendió al trono en el año 1000 DC, convirtiendo al país en un reino cristiano. En el siglo XII, Hungría se convirtió en una potencia media en el mundo occidental. Después de la batalla de Mohács en 1526, Hungría medieval se derrumbó y sucumbió a 150 años de ocupación otomana parcial (1541-1699).
