QUÉ SIGNIFICA INTENSIFIER EN INGLÉS
Intensificador
Intensificador es un término lingüístico para un modificador que no contribuye al significado proposicional de una cláusula, sino que sirve para realzar y dar contexto emocional adicional a la palabra que modifica. Los intensificadores son expletivos gramaticales, específicamente atributivos expletivos, porque funcionan como rellenos semánticamente vacíos. Característicamente, el inglés dibuja intensificadores de una clase de palabras llamadas modificadores de grado, palabras que cuantifican la idea que modifican. Más específicamente, derivan de un grupo de palabras llamadas adverbios de grado, también conocidas como adverbios de grado. Sin embargo, cuando se utilizan gramaticalmente como intensificadores, estas palabras dejan de ser adverbios de grado, porque ya no cuantifican la idea que modifican. En cambio, lo enfatizan emocionalmente. Por el contrario, las palabras moderadamente, ligeramente, y apenas son adverbios de grado, pero no intensificadores. El otro sello distintivo de los intensificadores prototípicos es que son adverbios que carecen de la característica primaria de los adverbios: la capacidad de modificar los verbos. Los intensificadores modifican exclusivamente adjetivos y adverbios.
