Frecuencia intermedia
En las comunicaciones y la ingeniería electrónica, una frecuencia intermedia es una frecuencia a la que se desplaza una frecuencia portadora como paso intermedio en la transmisión o recepción. La frecuencia intermedia se crea mezclando la señal de portadora con una señal de oscilador local en un proceso denominado heterodinación, dando como resultado una señal a la diferencia o frecuencia de batido. Las frecuencias intermedias se utilizan en receptores de radio superheterodinos, en los que una señal entrante se desplaza a una IF para amplificación antes de que se realice la detección final. La conversión a una frecuencia intermedia es útil por varias razones. Cuando se utilizan varias etapas de los filtros, todos pueden ajustarse a una frecuencia fija, lo que los hace más fáciles de construir y afinar. Los transistores de frecuencia más baja generalmente tienen mayores ganancias, por lo que se requieren menos etapas. Es más fácil hacer filtros selectivos con frecuencias fijas más bajas. Puede haber varias de estas etapas de frecuencia intermedia en un receptor superheterodino; Dos o tres etapas se llaman conversión doble o triple.
