Iontoforesis
La iontoforesis es un proceso físico en el cual los iones fluyen difusivamente en un medio conducido por un campo eléctrico aplicado. La iontoforesis se debe distinguir del transporte de moléculas no cargadas por los flujos difusivos de otras moléculas, especialmente de moléculas de disolvente, por ejemplo por electroósmosis, es decir por flujo de moléculas de disolvente no cargadas llevadas como efecto cruzado de iontoforesis. Estos fenómenos, directa e indirectamente, constituyen el transporte activo de la materia debido a un campo eléctrico aplicado. El transporte se mide en unidades de flujo químico, comúnmente μmol / cm2h. El transporte de una especie cargada de interés también puede medirse en términos de una corriente eléctrica representativa, pero esa corriente puede no ser la totalidad de la corriente impulsada por el campo eléctrico aplicado. La iontoforesis tiene aplicaciones puramente de laboratorio, así como aplicaciones terapéuticas y diagnósticas.
