En la ley inglesa, jactitation es el malicioso jactarse o dar por una de las partes que él o ella está casada con la otra. También existe en la ley de la República de Irlanda. En tal caso, para evitar la reputación común de su matrimonio que pudiera derivarse, el procedimiento es por traición de jactición de matrimonio, en la cual el peticionario alega que el demandado se jacta de que está casado con el peticionario y reza Una declaración de nulidad y un decreto poniendo al demandado al silencio perpetuo después. A la demanda hay tres defensas: ▪ negación de la jactancia; ▪ la verdad de las representaciones; ▪ alegación de que el peticionario aceptó la jactancia del demandado. En el caso Thompson v. Rourke, el Tribunal de Apelación estableció que el tribunal no dictará un decreto en una demanda de jactift en favor de un peticionario que en cualquier momento ha aceptado la afirmación del demandado de que estaban realmente casados. Antes de 1857 tal procedimiento se llevó a cabo sólo en el Tribunal Eclesiástico, pero en términos expresos de la Ley de Causas Matrimoniales de 1857 podría ser llevado a la División de Sucesiones, Divorcio y Almirantazgo de la Corte Suprema.
