Arrendajo azul
El arrendajo azul es un pájaro del passerine en la familia Corvidae, nativo a Norteamérica. Es residente a través de la mayor parte del este y central de los Estados Unidos y el sur de Canadá, aunque las poblaciones occidentales pueden ser migratorias. Se reproduce tanto en bosques caducifolios como de coníferas, y es común cerca y en áreas residenciales. Es predominantemente azul con un pecho blanco y partes inferiores, y una cresta azul. Tiene un collar negro en forma de "U" alrededor de su cuello y un borde negro detrás de la cresta. Los sexos son similares en tamaño y plumaje, y el plumaje no varía durante todo el año. Se reconocen cuatro subespecies del jay azul. El arrendajo azul se alimenta principalmente de frutos secos y semillas tales como bellotas, frutas suaves, artrópodos y, ocasionalmente, pequeños vertebrados. Por lo general recoge la comida de los árboles, arbustos y la tierra, aunque a veces los halcones insectos del aire. Al igual que las ardillas, los arrendajos azules son conocidos por ocultar nueces para el consumo posterior. Se construye un nido de copa abierta en las ramas de un árbol, que ambos sexos participan en la construcción. El embrague puede contener de dos a siete huevos, que son de color azulado o marrón claro con manchas marrones. Los jóvenes son altricial, y son incubados por la hembra durante 8-12 días después de la eclosión.
