Wassily Kandinsky
Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky fue un influyente pintor ruso y teórico del arte. Se le atribuye la pintura de las primeras obras puramente abstractas. Nacido en Moscú, Kandinsky pasó su infancia en Odessa. Se matriculó en la Universidad de Moscú, estudiando derecho y economía. En 1896, Kandinsky se instaló en Munich, estudiando primero en la escuela privada de Anton Ažbe y luego en la Academia de Bellas Artes. Él volvió a Moscú en 1914, después del estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Kandinsky era antipático a las teorías oficiales en el arte en Moscú comunista, y volvió a Alemania en 1921. Allí enseñó en la escuela Bauhaus de arte y arquitectura de 1922 hasta Los nazis lo cerraron en 1933. Luego se trasladó a Francia donde vivió por el resto de su vida, convirtiéndose en ciudadano francés en 1939 y produciendo parte de su arte más destacado. Murió en Neuilly-sur-Seine en 1944.
