Lapiths
Los Lapiths son un pueblo legendario de la mitología griega, cuya casa estaba en Tesalia, en el valle del Peneus y en el Pelion de la montaña. Eran una tribu eólica. Al igual que los Myrmidons y otras tribus de Tesalia, los Lapiths eran pre-helénicos en sus orígenes. Las genealogías las convierten en un pueblo afín con los Centauros: en una versión, se decía que Lapithes y Centaurus eran hijos gemelos del dios Apolo y de la ninfa Stilbe, hija del dios del río Peneus. Lapithes era un valeroso guerrero, pero Centaurus era un ser deformado que más tarde se apareaba con yeguas de las que venía entonces la raza de medio centauro medio caballero. Lapithes era el antepasado epónimo del pueblo Lapith, y sus descendientes incluyen guerreros Lapith y reyes, tales como Ixion, Pirithous, Caeneus, y Coronus, y los videntes Idmon y Mopsus. En la Ilíada, los Lapiths envían cuarenta naves tripuladas para unirse a la flota griega en la Guerra de Troya, comandada por Polipoetes y Leonteus.
