El B lineal es una escritura silábica que se utilizó para escribir el griego micénico, la forma atestiguada más temprana del griego. El guión precede al alfabeto griego por varios siglos. La escritura Mycenaean más antigua data a cerca de 1450 AC. Es descendiente de la antigua Lineal A, una escritura anterior no decodificada utilizada para escribir la lengua minoica, como es el silabario chipriota posterior, que también registró griego. El B lineal, que se encuentra principalmente en los archivos del palacio en Knossos, Cydonia, Pilos, Tebas y Micenas, desapareció con la caída de la civilización micénica durante el colapso de la Edad del Bronce.
