Louis XIV, conocido como Louis el grande o el rey del sol, era un monarca de la casa de Borbón que gobernó como rey de Francia y de Navarra a partir de 1643 hasta su muerte. Su reinado de 72 años y 110 días es el más largo de cualquier monarca de un país importante en la historia europea. Louis comenzó su gobierno personal de Francia en 1661 después de la muerte de su ministro principal, el cardenal italiano Mazarin.
