Luminiscencia
La luminescencia es la emisión de luz por una sustancia no resultante del calor; Es por lo tanto una forma de radiación del cuerpo frío. Puede ser causada por reacciones químicas, energía eléctrica, movimientos subatómicos o tensión en un cristal. Esto distingue la luminiscencia de la incandescencia, que es la luz emitida por una sustancia como resultado del calentamiento. Históricamente, la radioactividad fue pensada como una forma de "radio-luminiscencia", aunque hoy se considera que está separada ya que implica más que radiación electromagnética. El término "luminescencia" fue introducido en 1888 por Eilhard Wiedemann.
