Magnetosfera
Una magnetosfera es el área del espacio cerca de un objeto astronómico en el cual las partículas cargadas son controladas por el campo magnético de ese objeto. Cerca de la superficie del objeto, las líneas de campo magnético se asemejan a las de un dipolo magnético. Más lejos de la superficie, las líneas de campo están distorsionadas significativamente por las corrientes eléctricas que fluyen en el plasma. Al hablar de la Tierra, la magnetosfera se usa típicamente para referirse a la capa externa de la ionosfera, aunque algunas fuentes consideran que la ionosfera y la magnetosfera están separadas.
