Mecanoterapia
La mecanoterapia se utiliza como término para la prescripción del ejercicio para promover la curación y la rehabilitación. Este uso es consistente con la forma en que la "electoterapia" se refiere a la curación usando modalidades eléctricas tales como ultrasonido y "farmacoterapia" se refiere al tratamiento con fármacos. La mecanoterapia es un término útil para el ejercicio que se prescribe para la rehabilitación porque la reparación de los tejidos es impulsada por el proceso fisiológico y bien reconocido de la "mecanotransducción". Se desarrolló como una rama independiente de la medicina manual en Suecia a principios del siglo XX. Rápidamente se hizo popular en los Estados Unidos y muchos colegios de quiropráctica en los Estados Unidos en la primera mitad del siglo 20 también ofrecieron programas de grado independientes en mecanoterapia. Los mecanoterapeutas recibieron un título de Doctor en Mecanoterapia y fueron autorizados para practicar en muchos estados y practicaron en muchos más estados sin licencia.
