Metaloide
Un metaloide es un elemento químico que tiene propiedades entre las de los metales y los no metales. No existe una definición estándar de un metaloide, ni hay un acuerdo completo sobre qué elementos están debidamente clasificados como tales. A pesar de esta falta de especificidad, el término permanece en uso en la literatura química. Los seis metaloides comúnmente reconocidos son boro, silicio, germanio, arsénico, antimonio y telurio. Los elementos menos comúnmente reconocidos como metaloides incluyen carbono, aluminio, selenio, polonio y astatina. En una tabla periódica estándar, todos estos elementos se pueden encontrar en una región diagonal del bloque p, que se extiende desde el boro en un extremo hasta el astatino en el otro. Algunas tablas periódicas incluyen una línea divisoria entre metales y no metales y generalmente son los elementos adyacentes a esta línea o, con menos frecuencia, uno o más de los elementos adyacentes a esos elementos, que se identifican como metaloides.
