El movimiento metodista es un grupo de denominaciones históricamente relacionadas del cristianismo protestante que derivan su inspiración de la vida y las enseñanzas de John Wesley. George Whitefield y el hermano de John, Charles Wesley, también fueron líderes importantes en el movimiento. Se originó como un renacimiento dentro de la Iglesia del siglo XVIII de Inglaterra y se convirtió en una Iglesia separada después de la muerte de Wesley. Debido a la vigorosa actividad misionera, el movimiento se extendió por todo el Imperio Británico, Estados Unidos y más allá, afirmando hoy aproximadamente 80 millones de adherentes en todo el mundo.
