Un modificador que cuelga es un constructo gramatical ambiguo, por el cual un modificador gramatical podría ser malinterpretado como estando asociado con una palabra diferente a la intencionada, o sin una palabra en absoluto. Por ejemplo, un escritor puede haber querido modificar el tema, pero el orden de las palabras hace que el modificador parezca modificar un objeto en su lugar. Tales ambigüedades pueden conducir al humor no intencional oa la dificultad en entender una oración en contextos formales. Un ejemplo típico de un modificador que cuelga se ilustra en Turning the corner, un hermoso edificio escolar apareció.
