Crocosmia es un pequeño género de plantas con flores en la familia del iris, Iridaceae. Es nativo a las praderas de la región florística del cabo, Suráfrica. Pueden ser perennials perennials o deciduous que crecen de los cormos subterráneos basal. Las hojas basales y alternas son de caulina y distichous. Las hojas son lanceoladas. Las cuchillas son de veta paralela. El margen es entero. Los cormos son inusuales en la formación de cadenas verticales con los más jóvenes en la parte superior y más antigua y más grande enterrado más profundamente en el suelo. Las raíces del cormo más inferior en una cadena son raíces contráctiles y arrastran el cormo más profundo en el suelo donde las condiciones lo permiten. Las cadenas de cormos son frágiles y fácilmente separadas, una cualidad que ha permitido que algunas especies se conviertan en invasoras y difíciles de controlar en el jardín. Tienen coloridas inflorescencias de 4 a 20 vívidas flores rojas y anaranjadas subpotentes sobre un tallo divaricately ramificado. La inflorescencia terminal puede tener la forma de un cyme o un racema. Estas florecen desde principios del verano hasta bien entrado el otoño. Las flores son sésiles en una punta arqueada flexuosa. Las flores fértiles son hermafroditas. Todos los estambres tienen una longitud igual.
