Murray cod
El bacalao Murray es un gran pez depredador australiano de agua dulce del género Maccullochella y la familia Percichthyidae. Aunque la especie es un bacalao llamado en lengua vernácula, no está relacionada con las especies de bacalao marino del hemisferio norte. El bacalao Murray es una parte importante y carismática de la fauna de vertebrados de Australia y se encuentra en el sistema de río Murray-Darling en Australia. El bacalao Murray es el pez de agua dulce más grande exclusivamente en Australia, y uno de los más grandes del mundo. Otros nombres comunes para el bacalao de Murray incluyen bacalao, greenfish y goodoo. El nombre científico del bacalao de Murray deriva de un investigador australiano temprano del pescado con el apellido McCulloch y el río del cual el explorador Mitchell primero describió científicamente la especie, el río de la cáscara. Esto cambió durante varios años a M. peelii peelii para diferenciar el bacalao Murray del bacalao del río Mary, que fueron designados como una subespecie del bacalao de Murray.
