Netball es un deporte de pelota jugado por dos equipos de siete jugadores. Su desarrollo, derivado de las primeras versiones del baloncesto, comenzó en Inglaterra en la década de 1890. En 1960, las reglas de juego internacionales habían sido estandarizadas para el juego, y la Federación Internacional de Netball y Baloncesto Femenino (más tarde renombrada Federación Internacional de Netball (INF)) se formó. A partir de 2011, el INF abarca más de 60 equipos nacionales organizados en cinco regiones globales. Los juegos se juegan en una cancha rectangular con anillos de gol en cada extremo. Cada equipo intenta anotar goles pasando una pelota por la pista y disparando a través de su anillo de gol. A los jugadores se les asignan posiciones específicas que definen sus roles dentro del equipo y restringen su movimiento a ciertas áreas de la cancha. Durante la jugada general, un jugador con la pelota puede sujetarse por solo tres segundos antes de disparar para un gol o pasar a otro jugador. El equipo ganador es el que marca más goles.
