Eje neutral
El eje neutro es un eje en la sección transversal de una viga o eje a lo largo del cual no hay tensiones o tensiones longitudinales. Si la sección es simétrica, isotrópica y no está curvada antes de que se produzca una curva, entonces el eje neutro está en el centroide geométrico. Todas las fibras de un lado del eje neutro están en un estado de tensión, mientras que las del lado opuesto están en compresión. Dado que el haz está sometido a flexión uniforme, un plano sobre el haz permanece plano. Es decir: ¿Dónde está la deformación por cizallamiento y la tensión de cizallamiento? Existe una deformación de compresión en la parte superior del haz y una tensión de tracción en la parte inferior de la viga. Por lo tanto, por el Teorema del Valor Intermedio, debe haber algún punto entre la parte superior y la inferior que no tenga tensión, ya que la deformación en un haz es una función continua. Sea L la longitud original del haz ε es la deformación en función de la coordenada en la cara del haz. Σ es la tensión en función de la coordenada en la cara del haz. Ρ es el radio de curvatura de la viga en su eje neutro.
