QUÉ SIGNIFICA PALM ISLANDS EN INGLÉS
Islas Palm
Las Islas Palm son dos islas artificiales en Dubai, Emiratos Árabes Unidos en forma de palmeras. Los contratistas belgas y holandeses de dragado y marinos Jan De Nul y Van Oord, fueron contratados para completar la construcción. Las islas son la Palm Jumeirah y la Palma Jebel Ali. Cada asentamiento tendrá la forma de una palmera, coronada con una media luna. Los asentamientos tendrán un gran número de centros residenciales, de ocio y de entretenimiento y añadirán 520 kilómetros de playas no públicas a la ciudad de Dubai. Las dos islas comprenderán aproximadamente 100.000 metros cúbicos de roca y arena. Todos los materiales serán extraídos en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos. En las dos islas habrá más de 100 hoteles de lujo, villas y apartamentos residenciales junto a la playa, puertos deportivos, parques acuáticos, restaurantes, centros comerciales, instalaciones deportivas y balnearios. La creación de la Palm Jumeirah comenzó en junio de 2001. Poco después, el Palm Jebel Ali fue anunciado y comenzaron los trabajos de recuperación. Una tercera isla fue planeada y la construcción comenzó, pero este proyecto fue remodelado más adelante y retitulado a la isla de Deira.
