El giro paralelo en el esquí alpino es un método de giro que rueda el esquí sobre un borde, permitiéndole doblarse en arco. Así curvado, el esquí sigue el giro sin deslizamiento. Se contrasta con las técnicas anteriores, como el vástago Christie, que desliza el esquí hacia afuera del cuerpo para generar fuerza lateral. Los giros paralelos generan mucha menos fricción y son más eficientes tanto en mantener la velocidad como en minimizar el esfuerzo del esquiador. Las vueltas paralelas requieren un contacto sólido desde la parte inferior de la pierna del esquiador hasta el esquí para rotarlo en el borde. Esto fue difícil de lograr con el equipo de esquí temprano, limitando la técnica al dominio de alto rendimiento de las carreras. La introducción de esquís compuestos, bordes de metal, fijaciones de sujeción liberables y botas de plástico rígidas combinadas para permitir giros paralelos incluso en equipos para principiantes. A finales de los años sesenta, reemplazó rápidamente a los tallos para todas las curvas, excepto las de muy corto radio.
