El privilegio parlamentario es una inmunidad legal de la que disfrutan los miembros de ciertas legislaturas, en la que se otorga a los legisladores protección contra la responsabilidad civil o penal por las acciones o declaraciones hechas en el desempeño de sus funciones legislativas. Es común en los países cuyas constituciones se basan en el sistema de Westminster. Un mecanismo similar se conoce como inmunidad parlamentaria. En el Reino Unido, permite a los miembros de la Cámara de los Lores y de la Cámara de los Comunes hablar libremente durante los procedimientos parlamentarios ordinarios sin temor a una acción legal por calumnia, desacato al tribunal o violación de la Ley de Secretos Oficiales. También significa que los miembros del Parlamento no pueden ser detenidos en asuntos civiles por declaraciones o actos realizados como diputados dentro de los terrenos del Palacio de Westminster, con la condición de que tales declaraciones o actos ocurran como parte de un procedimiento en el Parlamento -por ejemplo , Como una pregunta al Primer Ministro en la Cámara de los Comunes.

Parliamentary privilege is a legal immunity enjoyed by members of certain legislatures, in which legislators are granted protection against civil or criminal liability for actions done or statements made in the course of their legislative duties. It is common in countries whose constitutions are based on the Westminster system. A similar mechanism is known as parliamentary immunity. In the United Kingdom, it allows members of the House of Lords and House of Commons to speak freely during ordinary parliamentary proceedings without fear of legal action on the grounds of slander, contempt of court or breaching the Official Secrets Act. It also means that members of Parliament cannot be arrested on civil matters for statements made or acts undertaken as an MP within the grounds of the Palace of Westminster, on the condition that such statements or acts occur as part of a proceeding in Parliament—for example, as a question to the Prime Minister in the House of Commons.
