Anemia perniciosa
La anemia perniciosa es uno de los muchos tipos de la familia más grande de anemias megaloblásticas. Una forma de desarrollar anemia perniciosa es la pérdida de células parietales gástricas, que son responsables, en parte, de la secreción de factor intrínseco, una proteína esencial para la posterior absorción de vitamina B12 en el íleon. Por lo general sentado en una gastritis atrófica, la destrucción autoinmune de las células parietales gástricas conduce a la falta de factor intrínseco. Dado que la absorción del intestino de cantidades normales de vitamina B12 en la dieta depende del factor intrínseco, la pérdida de factor intrínseco conduce a la deficiencia de vitamina B12.
