Filisteos
Los filisteos eran un pueblo descrito en la Biblia hebrea, que dice haber gobernado las cinco ciudades-estado de Gaza, Ascalón, Ashdod, Ekron y Gath, de Wadi Gaza en el sur al río Yarqon en el norte, pero sin frontera fija hacia el este. La Biblia los retrata como entre los enemigos más peligrosos del Reino de Israel. Desde 1822, los eruditos han conectado a los filisteos bíblicos con las inscripciones egipcias de "Peleset", y desde 1873, ambos han sido conectados con los "Pelasgians" del Egeo. Si bien la evidencia de estas conexiones es etimológica y ha sido discutida, esta identificación es sostenida por la mayoría de egiptólogos y arqueólogos bíblicos. La arqueología bíblica se ha centrado desde el inicio en la identificación de evidencia arqueológica para los filisteos. Según Israel Finkelstein, la investigación arqueológica hasta la fecha ha sido incapaz de corroborar un asentamiento masivo de filisteos durante la era de Ramesses III.
