Probabilidad de pre-prueba y probabilidad de post-prueba son las probabilidades subjetivas de la presencia de una condición antes y después de una prueba de diagnóstico, respectivamente. La probabilidad de post-prueba, a su vez, puede ser positiva o negativa, dependiendo de si la prueba cae como una prueba positiva o una prueba negativa, respectivamente. En algunos casos, se utiliza para la probabilidad de desarrollar la condición de interés en el futuro. La subjetividad de las probabilidades se basa en el hecho de que, en realidad, un individuo tiene la condición o no, por lo que las probabilidades pre y post-prueba para los individuos pueden ser consideradas como fenómenos psicológicos en las mentes de los implicados en el diagnóstico a mano.
