En matemáticas, la raíz n de un número x es un número r que, cuando se eleva a la potencia de n, es igual a x donde n es el grado de la raíz. Una raíz de grado 2 se llama raíz cuadrada y una raíz de grado 3, una raíz cúbica. Si n es pareja y x es real y positiva, una de sus enésimas raíces es positiva, una es negativa y las restantes son complejas pero no reales; Si n es par y x es real y negativo, ninguna de las enésimas raíces es real. Si n es impar y x es real, una raíz n-ésima es real y tiene el mismo signo que la radicand, mientras que las otras raíces no son reales.
