Radiografía
La radiografía es una técnica de imagen que utiliza radiación electromagnética distinta de la luz visible, especialmente los rayos X, para ver la estructura interna de un objeto no uniformemente compuesto y opaco, como el cuerpo humano. Para crear la imagen, un haz heterogéneo de rayos X es producido por un generador de rayos X y se proyecta hacia el objeto. Una determinada cantidad de rayos X es absorbida por el objeto, que depende de la densidad y composición particular de ese objeto. Los rayos X que pasan a través del objeto son capturados detrás del objeto por un detector. El NHS es completamente sin película habiendo convertido a la radiografía computarizada como parte del programa Conectando para la Salud. El detector puede entonces proporcionar una representación 2D superpuesta de todas las estructuras internas del objeto. En la tomografía, la fuente de rayos X y el detector se mueven para desenfocar estructuras que no están en el plano focal. La tomografía convencional se utiliza raramente ahora que ha sido substituida por CT. La tomografía computarizada, a diferencia de la tomografía en plano, genera representaciones en 3D que utilizan la reconstrucción asistida por ordenador.
