Reduccionismo
El reduccionismo es una posición filosófica que sostiene que un sistema complejo no es más que la suma de sus partes, y que una explicación de ella puede reducirse a los relatos de los constituyentes individuales. Esto puede decirse de objetos, fenómenos, explicaciones, teorías y significados. El reduccionismo refleja fuertemente una cierta perspectiva sobre la causalidad. En un marco reduccionista, los fenómenos que se pueden explicar completamente en términos de relaciones entre otros fenómenos más fundamentales, se llaman epifenómenos. A menudo hay una implicación de que el epifenómeno no ejerce ninguna agencia causal sobre los fenómenos fundamentales que la explican. El reduccionismo no excluye la existencia de lo que podríamos llamar fenómenos emergentes, sino que implica la capacidad de comprender completamente esos fenómenos en términos de los procesos de los que están compuestos.
