Krameria
Krameria es el único género en la familia de Krameriaceae, cuyo cualquiera de las aproximadamente 17 especies se conocen comúnmente como Rhatany, ratany o rattany. Rhatany es también el nombre dado a la raíz de krameria, un remedio botánico que consiste en la raíz seca de para rhatany o de rhatany peruana. La acción biológica de la rhatany es causada por el ácido astringente rhataniatannic, que es similar al ácido tánico. Las infusiones se han utilizado como un gargarismo, una pastilla, especialmente cuando se mezcla con cocaína, como un hemostático local y remedio para la diarrea. Cuando estaban finamente pulverizadas, las raíces secas proporcionaban un componente frecuente de los polvos dentales. Las raíces en polvo también han servido, especialmente en Portugal, a los vinos de color rojo rubí. La corteza de la raíz contiene una sustancia roja casi insoluble llamada rojo ratanhia. Krameria se encuentran a través de las Américas, con la mayoría nativa de las regiones tropicales. Son arbustos perennes que actúan como parásitos de raíz en otras plantas. Las flores tienen glándulas llamadas elaióforos que producen un lípido que es recogido por las abejas del género Centris como polinizan las flores.
