Agrarismo
El agrarismo tiene dos significados comunes. El primer sentido se refiere a una filosofía social o filosofía política que valora la sociedad rural como superior a la sociedad urbana, el agricultor independiente como superior al trabajador asalariado y ve la agricultura como un modo de vida que puede moldear los valores sociales ideales. Destaca la superioridad de una vida rural más simple frente a la complejidad de la vida urbana, con sus bancos y fábricas. El americano Thomas Jefferson era un agrario representativo que construyó la democracia jeffersoniana alrededor de la noción que los granjeros son "los ciudadanos más valiosos" y los republicanos más verdaderos. Las raíces filosóficas del agrarismo incluyen filósofos europeos y chinos. La Escuela China de Agrarismo era una filosofía que abogaba por el comunalismo utópico campesino y el igualitarismo. Esto influyó a intelectuales europeos como François Quesnay, un ávido confucianista y defensor de las políticas agrarias de China, formando la filosofía agraria francesa de la fisiocracia. Los fisiocratas, junto con las ideas de John Locke y la era romántica, formaron la base del moderno agrarismo europeo y americano.
