Espectrohelioscopio
Un espectrohelioscopio es un tipo de telescopio solar diseñado por George Ellery Hale en 1924 para permitir que el Sol sea visto en una longitud de onda seleccionada de luz. El nombre proviene de tres palabras latinas: Spectro, refiriéndose al espectro óptico, Helio, refiriéndose al Sol y al Alcance, como en el telescopio. Esquema de espectrohelioscopio típico. Las dos hendiduras oscilan rápidamente para permitir que una porción del sol se vea en luz monocromática. Son posibles muchas variaciones: la colimación se puede hacer con espejos cóncavos, la dispersión se puede lograr con prismas de vidrio, y el escaneo se puede lograr con hendiduras fijas y prismas cuadrados giratorios. Debido a que son grandes y delicados, los espectrohelioscopios suelen ser fijos, con espejos móviles para rastrear el sol. El espectrohelioscopio básico es una máquina compleja que utiliza un espectroscopio para escanear la superficie del sol. La imagen de la lente objetivo se centra en una ranura estrecha que revela sólo una porción delgada de la superficie de los soles. La luz es entonces pasada a través de un prisma o rejilla de difracción para esparcir la luz en un espectro. El espectro se centra entonces en otra hendidura que sólo permite pasar una parte estrecha del espectro.
