Esfalerita ((Zn, Fe) S) es un mineral que es el principal mineral de zinc. Consiste en gran parte de sulfuro de zinc en forma cristalina, pero casi siempre contiene hierro variable. Cuando el contenido de hierro es alto, es una variedad negra opaca, la marmatita. Se encuentra generalmente en asociación con galena, pirita y otros sulfuros junto con calcita, dolomita y fluorita. Los mineros también han sido conocidos por referirse a la esfalerita como zinc blende, black-jack y ruby jack.
