Espirula
Spirula spirula es una especie de molusco cefalópodo parecido al calamar de aguas profundas. Es el único miembro existente del género Spirula, la familia Spirulidae, y el orden Spirulida. Debido a la forma de su concha interna, se conoce comúnmente como el calamar del cuerno del carnero o el pequeño calamar del cuerno del poste. Debido a que el animal vivo tiene un órgano que emite luz, también es conocido como el calamar de luz de cola. Los especímenes vivos de este cefalópodo se ven muy raramente, porque es un habitante de los océanos profundos. La cáscara interna pequeña de la especie es sin embargo bastante un objeto familiar a muchos beachcombers. La cáscara de Spirula es extremadamente ligera en peso, muy boyante y sorprendentemente fuerte; Flota muy comúnmente en tierra en playas tropicales por todo el mundo. Esta concha es conocida por los colectores de shell como la cáscara del cuerno de carnero o simplemente como Spirula.
