QUÉ SIGNIFICA SPRINGBOK EN INGLÉS
Gacela
La gacela es una gacela de tamaño mediano de antílopes marrones y blancos del sudoeste de África. Es extremadamente rápido y puede alcanzar velocidades de 100 km / h y puede saltar 4 m por el aire. El nombre común "springbok" viene de las palabras de Afrikaans y Holandés spring = salto y bok = macho antílope o cabra. El epíteto específico marsupialis deriva de una solapa de piel parecida a un bolsillo que se extiende a lo largo del centro de la espalda desde la cola hacia adelante. Cuando la gacela macho está mostrando su fuerza para atraer a un compañero, o para rechazar a los depredadores, comienza con un trote de piernas tiesas, saltando en el aire con una espalda arqueada cada pocos pasos y levantando la solapa a lo largo de su espalda.
