La Cámara de la Estrella era un tribunal inglés que se sentaba en el palacio real de Westminster desde fines del siglo XV hasta 1641. Estaba compuesto de Consejeros Privados, así como jueces de derecho común y complementaba las actividades del derecho consuetudinario y Tribunales de equidad tanto en materia civil como penal. El tribunal fue creado para garantizar la aplicación justa de las leyes contra las personas prominentes, los tan poderosos que los tribunales ordinarios nunca los convencerían de sus crímenes. Las sesiones de la corte se celebraron en secreto, sin acusaciones y sin testigos. La evidencia fue presentada por escrito. Con el tiempo se convirtió en un arma política, un símbolo del mal uso y abuso de poder por la monarquía y los tribunales ingleses. En el uso moderno, los cuerpos legales o administrativos con las órdenes terminantes, arbitrarias y los procedimientos secretos se llaman a veces, metaphorically o poetically, cámaras de la estrella. Se trata de un término peyorativo que pretende poner en duda la legitimidad de los procedimientos. La falta inherente de objetividad de los cargos políticamente motivados ha llevado a reformas sustanciales en el derecho inglés en la mayoría de las jurisdicciones desde entonces.
