A person can generally become an LPN with two years of training; all U.S state and territorial boards also require passage of the NCLEX-PN exam. In terms of nursing education, a licensed practical nurse is a step down from a registered nurse, which generally requires a two-year associate's degree or four-year bachelor's degree and passage of the NCLEX-RN exam.
