Estrabismo
El estrabismo, también conocido como heterotropía, es una condición en la cual los ojos no están correctamente alineados entre sí. Por lo general, implica una falta de coordinación entre los músculos extraoculares, lo que impide llevar la mirada de cada ojo al mismo punto en el espacio y por lo tanto obstaculiza la visión binocular adecuada, y que puede afectar negativamente a la percepción de profundidad. El estrabismo es administrado principalmente por oftalmólogos, optometristas y ortopedistas. El estrabismo está presente en alrededor del 4% de los niños. El tratamiento debe iniciarse tan pronto como sea posible para asegurar el desarrollo de la mejor agudeza visual posible y estereopsis.
